Personal Statement:I believe that good tutoring skills stem from a long and diverse educational background, both of which I have gained throughout my own journey in school. I began tutoring a private math tutor to middle school students while I was in high school. During college at UCSD, I used the knowledge I gained from my AP classes to help others struggling in subjects including math, chemistry, biology, physics, and Spanish. This last year, as I worked on my Masters of Science, I taught side by side with Professors, which helped my teaching skills immensely. Even though I have a lengthy academic background, my young age allows me to connect strongly with my students. I provide knowledgeable insight since the material is fresh in my mind and I am also able to teach the practical study tips and techniques that helped me through the same tough classes. I also work hard to instill in students the one attribute of education without which school is impossible: having fun!!!While my specialty lies in Biology and Chemistry (I will be attending the UCLA School of Medicine in August 2010), I am well versed in many subjects. I have been lucky enough to work on subject matter ranging from Algebra 1 to Organic Chemistry with students just realizing their academic potential in middle school to those almost done with their academic careers in college. Also, I have extensive knowledge of the undergraduate and graduate school application process, and I would be more than happy to help advice students on how to build/fill out their applications.
